Hoover and MacArthur

Following General MacArthur’s retirement, he and former President Hoover remained close friends. MacArthur would later join Hoover by moving into a suite in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, the building that Hoover had called home for years. The two would often meet for dinner and discuss the political issues of the day.

While MacArthur lay on his deathbed, Hoover sent MacArthur this humorous telegram. The general passed away a little over a month later on April 5, 1964.
